Christmas is not just a time for giving, it’s also a time for viking. This flat pack Swedish recipe even has an umlaut in it.
1 bottle red wine. That dodgy bottle leftover from the party with the bull on the label will be perfect.
A good splash of vodka
80g/3oz light brown sugar
1-2 sticks cinnamon
An inch of root ginger, peeled and sliced
2 orange slices (and the skin as a garnish)
7 green cardamom pods
15-16 whole cloves
Serve with flaked almonds & raisins
How to make it
Pour the wine into a pan, add the rest of the ingredients and heat to dissolve the sugar.
Remove from the heat and leave to infuse for at least an hour. Bet the kitchen smells good now.
Warm up the Glögg.
Place a few flaked almonds and raisins in the bottom of your glasses (or horns, if you’re going full viking), and pour in the Glögg. Skål!
